We didn’t get photos of all of them, but I just wanted to post them and show what new missionaries look like. From multiple countries, with multiple different personal styles, and a heart for using all means available to communicate the gospel.

Only one of the students in these photos is from the states … all the rest are from multiple countries in Africa and Korea.

One thing that attracts us to Media Village is the ability to encourage media leaders from all over Africa and Asia.

I nearly got the entire way through the last Harry Potter; and we officially voted against using Dutch airlines again due to raw fish salads and, Kara’s favorite, water chestnut salads. (Water chestnuts are about the only food Kara can’t stand. We never imagined you could make an entire salad out of them.)

Word from the church plant team in Mozambique is that by Sunday
morning after continued house visits and open air preaching, they had
around 60 adults and children on Sunday morning for the first service.
Please, pray for Sambo because the hard work of pastoring is just
beginning for him.

We have tons to think through. No lights breaking through the clouds
and issuing a quest for the holy grail or anything, but I think Kara
and I both walk away with some seed ideas of what we could contribute
to in Africa. Thanks for traveling with us.

Today, Sunday, we split up as Josh, Rick, and Andrew preached in different churches.

Shoot. I mean, this stuff is so Christianity 101, but it’s hard to work it out in the real world.

Here’s the photo album of the trip. What you don’t get pictures of are my tremendously burnt legs. I’ll spare you. Seems I’ve been sitting at a computer with pants on for too many months.

Kara served at church all weekend singing for the services. Being transparent, church has had some sharp edges lately. People who make you ask, “Are you confused on the whole love one another thing or what?” And Kara, who has the softest heart I’ve ever known, takes the weight on these broken relationships (most of which are things we’re watching our friends walk through) and grieves over them as her own.

—Side note: I apologize if I bang the “Kara is awesome” drum all the time. I don’t want to be annoying. I think its in my nature to see to the potential in people in general — I got that from Mom. But then with a lady like Kara, it’s just so ridiculously easy, and not to mention stunning when I see it. I don’t realize I’m bragging on her again until a paragraph or two later.

But this weekend was a good weekend. It seems God has answered in small way with more peace concerning the burdens on my lady’s heart. And we’re thanking him for that today. In your praying, please lift up Kara’s ministry at Denver Health Emergency Room. It is a thankless place most of the time and the patients are of the roughest breed often. While helping sometimes even save their life, she can be verbally abused and potential physically assaulted. A co-worker of hers was even bitten a few days.

God has certainly called her to be his hands and his agent of comfort in that place, but to remain a tender heart in that environment is a daily, deliberate effort.
